Stuff wot we learned today…

Well it’s been championships week for the Wheelers and hot on the heels of Wednesday’s ten, 11 of the Wheelers finest set out to tackle the classic Mersey View hill climb in glorious warm sunshine today. A shorter course than the original to leave out the speed bumps and the right turn but all the hard bits left in. Big Dave went first in his first ever bike race and set a good marker which lasted until the medallists hit the slopes leaving the rest of us to slog up for nothing but personal glory. Commiserations to Nathan who broke a wheel before even making the start , I had you down for a good ride but next year……

Subject to the results of a stewards enquiry , here is the outcome of today’s hill climb championship.

DI went back up for another go because she thought she could go quicker  – scary woman!
My thanks to Mrs HJ for time keeping at the start , Pete and Al pushing off and Roy at the top clocking every one home. These are low key little events but they can’t happen without help so my thanks to all the helpers .Too many clubs struggle to get the help at events but the Arancionero always muck in so many thanks. I hope everyone’s had as much fun riding them as I’ve had  with them. Next year, some of you’ll be ready for proper open events, spread the good name of the Wheelers out there!
After we’d all got our legs back at the top a sociable spin was enjoyed out to the Ice Cream Farm at Tattenhall for tea and buns . Whilst there we welcomed an old friend John McKenna back into the fold after a year in the wilderness.. Welcome back John , the more the merrier. Thanks to all for waiting for us stragglers today. I think Cery’s stint on the front took a bit too much out of her but she was too polite to swing off!!
Next on the agenda – Pete Prince will be sorting out a club presentation evening somewhere in Frodsham some time near Christmas so watch Facebook for details. We’ll have awards for Handicap 10, Hill Climb, Road Race Champion, Overall 10’s Champion , and Club Champion so it should be a good do. Dean is pushing for a cyclo cross championship , any takers??
Speedy recovery to Al and Roy , hope you’re both back and fit for then ext big Wheelers event which will be the Christmas Wizard run.
Anyone free on Tuesday at about 12-14:00? Danny Emmet should e passing through Frodsham on his way south. Pop by and share a coffee but don’t be too hospitable or he’ll not want to carry on!
Thanks and well done to everyone who has competed this year  either in our little events or in proper open races. Hopefully appetites are whetted, more people out there next year in racing stripes – Forza Frodsham
