Wheelers are badass, Tyres go flat, Hills are hard, Danny’s got a lovely Sky jacket and John Flynn is a human bin
Thirteen hardy Wheelers, new ones, old ones and seldom seen ones braved the day – no sign of the Sky Riders but hey, can’t all be badass! The forecast was as grim as we’ve been accustomed to all winter but after an airline style safety briefing from Captain Emmett, off we went.
As it was a special occasion, we deviated from the usual Ice Cream Farm route and were rewarded with some delightful little lanes once we got south of Holt. Steep ones, narrow ones, twisty ones, muddy ones. It’s odd how the terrain can seem so different just by crossing a main road… Over Hart Hill the easy way and down to the Ice Cream Farm which appeared to be the destination of choice for all under 5’s in the country today.
John Flynn kindly saved a sausage roll for me – how he managed to shovel two in plus a cake is beyond me but he did it easily!
Ride home was straightforward enough aside of a third puncture of the day and a minor tumble from Danny. Not just Conti’s this time Stuart Lundstrom!! Well done to the returnees Peter Astle and Keiran O’Reilly. Cracking effort from newest member Warren O’Donoghue on his first bunch ride and hopefully many more to come.
Those who stayed in bed missed a good route, good craic and a not bad day. Thanks to those who marshalled the back today to keep everyone together – great effort. Thanks to Danny Emmett for organising and leading in his snazzy jacket – More Sky Rides planned for the future but next week back to proper Wheeling!!
