2018 Hill Climb Championship — The Yeld, Kelsall

We all rocked up at twleve50 Towers, some of us overdressed with gilets, rain jackets, arm and leg warmers — Not necessary!

Steady ride out to Brines Brow as we were all keeping our powder dry for the big event. Running order set, riders on the line and pretty much everyone set better times than last year so well done to everyone, not just our winners Sam Marshall and Brigid Wilde.

It was a dead heat for 2nd in the ladies race between Dianne Turner and Sarah Illidge. In the lads race, previous champion Mark Stevens gave incumbent Sam a prestigious rabbit to chase but Marco held him off at the line and avoided the catch.

Kevin Sales; probably the most unpleasant thing I’ve done on a bike 😀

Ed Cox took a solid 2nd place with 5:11 ( but as a second claim member, doesn’t count towards a club trophy! ). Marco took silver though with 5:43, rounding off the podium with 5:56 was Rob McGregor. Kevin Sales at the cafe reckoned it was probably the most unpleasant thing he’s done on a bike, but at least he’s laid down a marker for next year!

It’s a difficult course, tricky corners when they’re wet, a bit of downhill to upset the rhythm, it was bad enough just riding up to time-keep. Smasher Hartley played uber domestique, riding up with his jacket stuffed full of everyone else’s clobber. Stephen Wright – thanks for your help setting off and keeping time at the bottom.
