Frodsham Wheelers go vintage

Saturday 13th August saw the very first Vintage/Retro ride. This is an annual event and the first for 2016 so expectations were high. We have a number of riders who are passionate about old bikes whether it be a classic Eddy Merckx or a Raleigh its simple riders brought along their classic bikes full of original parts or the super old/modern style retro  bikes with the latest bling money can buy.

Going Vintage/Retro

Departing from twelve50 bikes Frodsham

So the cycling gods were looking down on us all. All blinged up off they went heading to Chester, then onto the cyclist café of Eureka.  This was quite a site to see, bikes over 60 year’s old weighing excess of 15kgs riding again on the roads. Many of the bikes on show started life many years ago as someone’s pride and joy. But as time passes old bikes collect dust and end being neglected for many many years. The bikes on show have been salvaged from skips, garages etc and have been lovingly restored back to their original specifications with some bling additions. This is time consuming and costly as some of the parts are rare which bring a high price for them. When you are so passionate about cycling the reward of riding such an iconic bike outways the time and cost.

On show were Masi, Peugeot, Trek, W. Holdsworth, and Graham Weich bikes with the earliest built in 1949 and a modern 1980`s trek.

A great day, a great success with many more classic/retro rides to come. Already planning for  2017
