Another fine day enticed 14 Arancionero out for a poppy bedecked ride.5 were on a short one so 9 of us ventured out into North Wales for Eugenes Winter Warmer #1. After a gentle spin out through Chester, the road began to climb , taking in some of the classics such as the Rosset , The Steps , Minera. Dropping down the Shelf on to Llandegla and on into Ruthin for café stop #1 , for some reason Eugene limited us all to ONE cake or toast then stuffed himself with 3 ….Ever read Animal Farm Mark?! Once out of Ruthin , the only way is up. Despite having un jour sans as the French say ,James gamely pressed on to meet his nemesis – Bwlch Penbarras. It goes up and up and steeper then up some more then drags on for an eternity but dodging cars all the way , we all hit the top and took in the view. A stunning backdrop of Welsh countryside is the reward at the top, before plunging down off the side of Moel Famau down to Loggerheads. A quick drop down the Rainbow into Mold preceded a steady ride back to Eureka for more food and liquids which weren’t rationed this time! Dodging the early afternoon showers, we wound our way through the lanes back to Frodsham , salvation for some , more miles home for others. A fantastic day out, some great climbs bagged , keep an eye out for Winter Warmer #2 coming your way soon.
