Frodsham Wheeler Matthew Kimpton-Smith along with a group of fellow cyclists have managed to raise over £9,000 for charity!
Matthew and the group embarked on an 850km bike ride from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town in South Africa. He raised £9,350 for The Message Trust, the group raised over £174,000 for our life-changing work. When added with Gift Aid the grand total was a wapping £186,000!
Message is a Christian charity tackling issues youth are facing today. Their initiatives include Eden Youth workers moving into tough estates to bring change within communities; Message Enterprise Centre, providing jobs, training & housing for ex-offenders & bands who teach life lessons in schools.
Said Matthew :
In a moment of weakness I was persuaded to do a cycle ride from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town for The Message, an amazing Manchester based charity that Sam and I have supported for many years
When I agreed it all seemed a long way in the future, but our departure soon came round and whilst not overly concerned about the distance I thought an extra challenge was required, so I broke my right wrist whilst training 3 weeks before the travel date. I have finally been signed off by a specialist as able to go – just need to ‘man up and take the pain!
I would be delighted if you are able to support the Message by sponsoring me on this event, but also know that you will all get many similar requests, so this is where I normally put in the phrase ‘please don’t feel any obligation’, however I really need your help on this one and it is for a great cause.
